STATEMENT FROM THE DAWSON CITY MUSIC FESTIVAL ASSOCIATION REGARDING THE 2020 THAW DI GRAS LIP SYNC EVENT
It is with very heavy hearts that the Dawson City Music Festival Association (DCMF) announces the postponement of our ever-loved annual Lip Sync competition, a staple event of Dawson City’s Thaw di Gras celebrations.
This decision is not a result of official territorial or federal health recommendations, which explicitly state that there is currently no reason to cancel the event. The risk assessment remains low. This decision is the result of difficult and thorough discussions among the Association, its staff, and our community partners. It is important to ensure proper prevention efforts during this time of concern regarding COVID-19. Therefore, DCMF is taking additional precautionary measures. In light of this, the difficult decision to postpone has been made.
As longtime stakeholders in the Thaw di Gras event, we are heartbroken to be rescinding our participation and ask for patience and understanding as we navigate this uncharted territory within the community. Lip Sync is DCMF’s most important and profitable fundraiser of the year, and such fundraising is crucial to the survival of our small non-profit. The financial repercussions of cancelling this event will be felt deeply in the organization, and we hope that our community will eagerly support us in other efforts to raise funds so that we can continue to offer our year-round programming and ensure the success of the 2020 summer Festival. We also hope that you will support our community partners, the Klondike Visitors Association during this challenging time.
We invite individuals who had planned on attending tonight’s event to consider making a donation to DCMF or purchase a ticket to the 2020 Festival. For information regarding COVID-19 we encourage people to visit www.yukon.ca.
