On July 14th, 2011, Owen Pallett will grace Dawson with an uncommonly intimate concert J at the Palace Grand Theatre. Since his last appearance in Dawson (DCMF 2006, under his previous nom de guerre Final Fantasy), Pallett has gone on to relative superstardom, performing at Madison Square Garden, on late night TV, and at festivals like Coachella and Glastonbury. His eponymous release (Domino Records) received near-unanimous critical support, cementing his position as one of the world’s most inventive composers.
Pallett has a superlative ability to draw on classical and avant-garde string arrangement traditions and insert them into a pure pop context. It’s a magical and transportative approach that has mesmerized audiences worldwide. Expect nothing less at this concert within the hallowed halls of the Palace Grand.
Doors for the concert open at 7:00 PM. A supporting group TBA will open the show at 8:00 PM. Tickets for the event are $30, and are available at www.yukontickets.com or by calling the Yukon Arts Centre’s box office at (867) 667-8574. In person, tickets are available at Maximilian’s Gold Rush Emporium (Dawson) or Arts Underground and YAC (Whitehorse).
This concert is a co-production with the Yukon Arts Centre and the Klondike Institute of Arts & Culture, and is part of DCMF’s concert series which exists with the support of the Department of Canadian Heritage and Yukon Government – Department of Tourism & Culture; Elaine Taylor, minister.
