From electronica pioneers to multi-platinum ‘70s legends, the 33rd Dawson City Music Festival (July 15-17) promises to be one of the most eclectic editions of the legendary Northern event that’s been famously dubbed “Canada’s Tiny, Perfect Festival.”
Today, the Dawson City Music Festival has announced lineup and ticket information on its newly-designed website at http://www.dcmf.com . The lineup is headlined by legendary ‘70s heroes The Stampeders, who will perform Saturday night only.
Other artists include Kelowna-based roots rock revivalists Yukon Blonde; Dawson resident turned globetrotting rocker, Shotgun Jimmie; Yellowknife experimental throat singer Tanya Tagaq; Newfoundland singer-songwriter and Juno-winner, Amelia Curran; and David Essig, a B.C. blues artist who co-founded the very first DCMF in 1979. A wide variety of Yukon-based artists and other names are still to be announced.
“Like Dawson itself, our festival audience is highly unusual,” explains Festival Producer Tim Jones. “It’s made up of gold miners, ten-year-olds, Montreal hipsters, Alaskan softball players, and avant-garde music fans – the beauty of this year’s lineup is that, as usual, we offer something for everyone.”
One unusual element of this year’s event is a special electronica showcase, taking place on the Festival’s Friday night. Halifax electro-pop maestro Rich Aucoin will join Edmonton’s Shout Out Out Out Out to start what will likely be the biggest dance party in Festival history, and follow it up with an interactive workshop on the process, instruments, and musical inspirations behind their music on Saturday afternoon.
DCMF Weekend Passes have been placed on sale today. As DCMF is on a 32-year sellout streak, advance purchase is the only way to ensure a chance to see the festival.
Today, the Festival also announces its summer concert schedule, which this year will comprise two concerts at the Palace Grand Theatre: folk-blues trio Timber Timbre (June 3) and violin virtuoso Owen Pallett (July 14). The annual local music showcase, “Cover Me Badd,” will take place May 27 at the Odd Fellows’ Hall.
Information about how to purchase weekend passes and concert tickets can be found at www.dcmf.com, alongside further information about the artists named above. For other information on the Festival, contact DCMF Producer Tim Jones at info@dcmf.com or (867) 993-5584.
