It’s been an exciting couple of years since Raw Element’s last DCMF performance, and we’re very curious to hear what two years of travel, learning and artistic growth has done for one of the Yukon’s most exciting and forward-thinking musical acts. The group was formed in 2002 and has spent the last four years transforming their youthful optimism into dance-fl oor friendly songs which aim to bridge the gap between hip hop and the wider Canadian music audience. Matter, their just released new album, is a joyful collection of reggae, electronica and folk infused conscious hip-hop that features collaborations with a rich array of guest musicians, including Fredlocks Asher of the Vancouver band Selasie Power; Simon X of the Cambridge U.K. band Horace X; George McConkey of the Undertakin’ Daddies, and Chris and Brandon Isaacs, some of the Yukon’s premiere blues musicians. An expanded line-up will also be featured on-stage at the festival this year, with the original trio of Charles Hegsted and Daniel & Galen Ashley joined by Chris Ermatinger, Reid Parent, and guest vocalist Fiona Solon.
