Volunteer Information

Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Dawson City Music Festival.  Many people also consider it the best way to see the festival – from the inside. The information below is for potential volunteers interested in getting in on the action, having lots of fun, and helping us put on another great festival!

How do I become a volunteer?

If you’re already in Dawson City, stop by our office at 3rd & Harper and get the low-down from our staff. We’ll ask you to fill out a volunteer application.

If you're not currently in Dawson but plan to be for the summer, email us at volunteer@dcmf.com to start making arrangements.

What is expected of me as a volunteer?

In order to receive a weekend pass, we ask that people work a minimum of 15 hours on the festival. Shorter shift lengths are available.

We require all volunteers to be reliable and responsible. Please stay in touch with our Volunteer Coordinator before the Festival - and of course, show up for your shifts!

As a volunteer you will be representing the festival and our community, so we ask that you be polite, professional and courteous at all times.

What will I do as a volunteer?

Some people like to do what they do in their normal lives, some like to completely change their personalities for one weekend a year. Either way, there are many different areas to volunteer in. Below is a sample of some of the many volunteer positions at the festival.

Beer GardenSelling cold beverages to enthusiastic, thirsty patrons. Must be 19 years of age.

Info Booth — Helping festival patrons find what they’re looking for, exchanging tickets for wristbands and selling day passes.

KidsFEST — Kids just wanna rock - and have their faces painted, make crafts, sing, dance and enjoy all kinds of fun games and activities.

Security — The Red Shirt Brigade! Keeping the festival happy & safe for everyone.

Are there perks involved with being a volunteer?

Yes! Along with the satisfaction of helping your community put on a great event, you’ll have the chance to work alongside old friends and make lots of news ones. Plus, free admission and discounted festival merchandise!

Can I volunteer if I don’t live in Dawson City?

While we do have some people who come to town just to volunteer, we try to fill as many spots as possible with people who live in the community, or who are spending the summer here.  However, we rarely turn away folks who show up to volunteer during the weekend – ask in the Beer Garden or the Security Tent, and you might find an opportunity to pitch in and earn yourself an evening’s pass!

How Old Do I Have To Be To Volunteer?

Because of certain age limitations on parts of the festival grounds, we ask that the majority of the volunteers be 19 years of age and over. However, we reserve a small number of positions for Yukon youth  between the ages of 14 and 18 in a variety of our Festival committees. Email volunteer@dcmf.com to learn more about youth volunteer opportunities.
