Dawson City Music Festival

An Intimate Evening of Songs Onscreen

What a lovely evening we had last night in the Klondike Institute of Art & Culture (KIAC) Ballroom. Our 17th annual Songwriter in Residence (17 years! Can you believe that!?), Cassia Hardy of Wares performed a virtual concert which was recorded during her residency in Dawson in January.

Jonny Klynkramer, a familiar face around DCMF, filmed and edited both Cassia’s performance as well as a number of live sessions featuring Dawson musicians over the last year. Several of these sessions were presented on the big screen too:

We were serenaded by Andrew Laviolette‘s heartfelt storytelling, brought to laugher by Calhoun‘s extremely apt lyrics, swooned over the velvety vocals of Everytt Willow, tapped our feet to a toe-tapping tune by Gab Gosselin, treated to the delights of Joey O’Neil‘s songwriting, and absolutely entranced by an instrumental piece from Mike Erwood. The live sessions were capped off with the sweet, sweet vocals of Magnolia Music (our very own Board member!), a beautiful finale.

Curious? You can check out the local live sessions here: www.instagram.com/dawsoncitysessions

We’d like to thank projectionist extraordinare Dan Sokolowski and “music man” Matt Sarty over at KIAC, Parks Canada Yukon for the continued use of the Macaulay House, the North Klondyke Highway Music Society for their ongoing support of the Songwriter in Residence program, and of course Jonny Klynkramer for making the onscreen magic happen.
